Check out this month's edition of the Lakeland Rewind for a video recap of the past month. This edition features:
Equine science majors working on colt starting
The renaming of the Otôtemiwewin Student Lounge
The administrative support graduation
And more!
On Jan. 15, we celebrated the new name of our Indigenous Student Lounge: Otôtemiwewin. Elder Florence Blois-Carter from Onion Lake Cree Nation gifted our Indigenous Student lounge with its new name, Otôtemiwewin, which means "Friendship" in Cree. The new name reflects the meaning of the space, which embodies friendship, belonging and the spirit of community.
Learning in action
Energy student Nevin Jarvis uses her art as a form of self-expression, a way to share the stories she's heard from her grandfather, and a way to connect with her Indigenous culture.
According to Lakeland College environmental sciences instructor Brendan Ganton, all he did was leave the door open and student Tylan Andrews, with the support of Inclusion Alberta, did the rest. Andrews and his family, who nominated Ganton for Inclusion Alberta’s Community Inclusion Award in 2024, might disagree.
